Common Misconception

“A factory that calls itself sustainable is sustainable.”

Sustainability claims without third-party certification are marketing, not compliance. GRS (Global Recycled Standard) requires independent auditing of the entire supply chain — from raw material collection through yarn production to finished product. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 requires laboratory testing for over 100 harmful substances by an accredited institute. Neither can be self-declared. BSCI social compliance requires an on-site factory audit by an accredited body such as Bureau Veritas. When evaluating a supplier’s sustainability credentials, always request the certificate number and verify it directly with the issuing body — not from a PDF the supplier has provided.

1 — GRS Certified Recycled Yarn

Our GRS certification covers post-consumer PET recycled acrylic yarn sourced from verified suppliers. The Global Recycled Standard requires independent auditing at every stage of the supply chain — from raw material collection and yarn production through to the finished scarf — ensuring that recycled content claims are traceable and cannot be fabricated at any point in the chain.

Chain of custody documentation is provided with all GRS-certified orders, enabling buyers to substantiate recycled content claims to their own customers, retail partners, and regulators. Recycled content options range from 30% to 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material depending on yarn type and product specification.

2 — OEKO-TEX Standard 100

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification requires laboratory testing for over 100 harmful substances — including pesticides, heavy metals, formaldehyde, azo dyes, and pH levels — across every component of a finished product: fibres, dyes, finishes, and accessories. Our certification covers all scarf product categories, meaning every product produced under this standard meets the same testing requirement regardless of end use.

The certification is renewed annually. Unlike BSCI, which is a factory-level audit, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is a product-level certification — it applies to the finished goods themselves, not only to the factory that made them. This distinction matters for brands making product-level claims on labelling or in marketing.

3 — BSCI Social Compliance

Social compliance is a core component of responsible sourcing that is frequently overlooked in favour of environmental credentials. WeaveEssence has passed BSCI social compliance audits conducted by Bureau Veritas, covering labour rights, working hours and wages, health and safety, freedom of association, and environmental management at factory level.

The audit report is available to buyers on request and includes the grade achieved, the auditor’s name, the accreditation number, and the audit date. Reports are valid for two years from the audit date. Buyers whose retail partners require BSCI documentation as a sourcing prerequisite can use our current report directly.

Verify: Confirm the issuing body’s accreditation (Bureau Veritas) and cross-check the audit date. Reports more than two years old should be treated as expired.

4 — Reduced-Water Dyeing & Responsible Packaging

Our dyeing facility uses low-liquor ratio technology, which reduces the volume of water required per kilogram of fabric dyed compared to conventional dyeing methods. Lower water volume means proportionally reduced dyestuff and auxiliary chemical consumption, and reduced wastewater output. Process documentation covering water consumption benchmarks is available for buyers conducting supply chain due diligence.

On the packaging side, we offer recycled content polybags as a standard alternative to virgin plastic, and FSC-certified hang tags for brands that require responsible paper sourcing documentation. Both are available from standard MOQ. Buyers who need packaging sustainability documentation for their own ESG reporting can request material specifications and supplier certificates as part of the standard order documentation package.
